The Fairy Woods

Themed residential masterplan

Buenos Aires, Argentina2025Schematic designIndependent practice
Carved timber gates set between two small turrets at the entrance to a wooded residential estate, framed by mature trees and flowering planting.

A themed residential masterplan in Buenos Aires, laid out as a sequence of passages through existing woodland rather than as a street grid. Each house is placed to frame a particular view and to hold its own privacy, and the theme is carried all the way down into the gates, bridges and lanterns rather than being applied to the façades alone.

  • Visualization
A gravel passage running between timbered houses whose balconies and climbing planting close over it, seen through a carved timber doorway.
The passages do the work the streets would.
A timber footbridge with arched ribs crossing a planted stream in front of a half-timbered house.
A small open pavilion with a shingled roof standing in a clearing of flowering shrubs.
A covered porch with timber columns and climbing roses, furnished with cane seating, looking out over water.
Interior of one of the houses: a timber stair rising past a tall arched window into a double-height hall.
Interior of a type house.

Process

Each house type was modelled as a complete object so that the same few types could be rotated and repeated through the woodland without the repetition becoming visible from the passages.

Working axonometric of one half-timbered house type, modelled in flat grey with its turret, dormers and porch.
